Auburn Classic Half Marathon 2012

I wasn't sure how I would do today, given I haven't been as good about training or diet in the lead up. My left hamstring was tender after my run last Thursday, so I have to admit that I was glad that race got postponed until this morning on account of the bad weather. We had a tornado watch in effect for the start yesterday. They had a start at 6:30, and another at 7:30, and though the weather looked to stay fairly consistent (about 57 F, overcast), I opted to get out earlier rather than later. I felt good most of the way, and made it in at 2:02:56 by my reckoning. Not quite under 2 hours, but I'm happy just to get through it feeling OK. My feet are a little blistered up, but all in all...

Athens GA Half Marathon

I made it out to Athens, where I ran the Athens Half Marathon as planned. I didn't get any more running in this week, after the 10 mile last Sunday, but that didn't seem to hurt me. My goal was to come in under 2 hours, and I did it. The course was quite lovely, starting on the campus of UGA, and snaking around Athens, up through the neighborhood where we stayed with some old friends from Oregon, Doug and Elizabeth, and their two year old daughter, Clara. Doug ran it also, though mostly because I was there to do it. He bikes quite a bit, and he came in about 1:45. The course was a bit hilly, more hilly than Auburn's half, anyway, with a great big climb at the end to arrive right downtown. As I often do, I was passing people on the late climb, which felt good, especially as many of these folks had been jockeying back and forth with me for as much as 1o or 11 miles. As in January, with the AORTA Half, my hips started barking quite a bit towards the end. I also got a huge blood blister. But apart from that, I'm feeling quite good for having run it, and would probably like to do it again next year.

Half marathon/Piece of Cake

I ran the half marathon this morning. A pretty nice route although a few twists and turns, and some ups and downs as well. Got to see a few of my friends there, mostly Forestry folks, and Penny was there helping run the show as usual. As for a playlist, I dialed in all of my CAKE because 1. I'm going to see them tonight in B'ham (!), and 2. it's easier than having to try and program a 2+ hour playlist. I didn't even get into "Comfort Eagle" or "Prolonging the Magic"! Right now, my hips and feet are quite sore, though I'm not feeling totally wiped out.

I won't be able to do the Love Your Heart 10K next weekend, as I have to attend a work function, but I'm not too bummed about it since I hit the Half this year.
