Summer 5K Series week 2

Another Summer 5K.  A bit warmer than last week.  Veronica ran the 1 mile fun run again, and did well, about 7:40.  She says she'll do the 5K next week.  Violet ran the mile again and did much better, finishing strong at about 10 minutes.  For my part, I started out quickly, ran the first mile under 7 minutes, but I couldn't keep that pace.  Even so, I did all right.  I think I'm starting to get the hang of this course.

Still Catching Up

Somehow I thought this route would be a bit longer than 4 miles, but according to gmaps, it's not. I'm trying to play catchup and haven't quite caught up yet. But, being summer in Alabama, it's hot out there and I didn' want to go too far or too fast. I got a new pair of shoes yesterday, the Five Fingers variety, but I'm hesitant to go running in them until I get used to them a bit. My daughter wants to go running with me, so maybe we'll take a short one out to give them a try later today or tomorrow. I'm reluctant to take her out while I'm in catchup mode, seeing as she's a noobie and all.

5k plus

So today is what, my third or fourth day in a row? Starting out today, my calves were most sore, but now I think I have a blister on the bottom of my right foot which hurts a little more. I think I'm feeling a big endorphin rush, not just heart attack paranoia. I'm planning on starting to run in some races in the area. Not to compete, I don't think I stand a chance, but rather to go on routes that are actually measured. Today I thought I'd try one of these routes, since it's nearby enough. It will be a 5K, so I ran it. I tried to get my time for the actual 5K, but didn't quite time the lap correctly.

Total 40:20. So I thought I thumbed the lap when I got on the actual 5K route, but I didn't. I thumbed it when I found the error, about 2:30 later or so. The last split was from the end of the 5K loop home, and was similar to the same length on the way out. So really if I add the difference between L1 and L3 (2:20), then my 5K time is about 27:47 , which is pretty OK for me.

Saturday Morning Jog

I've been trying to get back out again for a couple of days. I did this morning, as it was starting to warm up. I went all the way out to Chewacla and back, with splits.
Home to Ogletree Stop sign 8:55, Ogletree to Chewacla 7:28, Chewacla to Ogletree 8:17, Ogletree back home 9:34. So I slowed down quite a bit. Total time 34:15

Irie Jog

Another long one, first in a long while. Up to the Art Museum and back. For no apparent reason, I decided to go with an all-reggae playlist. Uplifting, soulful, spiritual reggae. It's been so rainy here this spring, which tonight made the jog smell very nice; Wisteria, cedar chips, Sunday night laundry. Somehow I think that inspired me to go long.
