Getting Hot in Here

Just added a year, and a new goal. I'd like to run 39 miles a month, or 3 half marathons, or both. To this end, I have to run, so I did. It's starting to get hot out there, and I felt it. I started off at about 8:45, which is currently too late to get started, which I should have known given the 5k last Saturday that started at 8:00. Even so, with such an ambitious goal, I knew that I had to push a bit, and I felt that the Gay/Samford/College/Woodfield route would accomplish that.

Run with a purpose

I've ended up taking the week off, not on purpose. Today, though, I had the opportunity to run with a practical objective, namely to fetch my wife's car from a friends house. We'd taken two cars, and left one there, so I opted to run the 3 or so miles rather than figuring out some alternative.
It had gotten quite hot and muggy out there, and so it was tougher than I was expecting, especially with a big drop in elevation toward the end. Our friends live out near the elementary school, so it was up and over, then down Ogletree a bit, and then down.

New Month, New Route, Will I ever go back to my old ways?

Another couple of days off, followed by another long run. I'm not sure how this pattern affects my desired goals, i.e. getting more fit, losing weight, going longer, getting ready for half- or full-marathon. Most of the route I've done before, only now I've mish-mashed them into a new combination. Down University up to Donahue, up onto campus and up to Magnolia, across College and down Gay to Thach, Armstrong to Samford and back home via Gay St.

In San Francisco, in the Richmond District, where my in-laws live. I went out into the Presidio and Mountain Lake Park, which are right by here, then up Lake Street from 14th Ave to 25th and back, with an extra block of 14th to get a full 30 minutes in.

Definitely slowed down a bit between way out and back. Not too surprising, I guess. Shel Toomer has a bit more up and down, unlike the Ogletree route, which is longer but less topography.
