Early Morning Long Run

It's been a while since I got up this early to run, but I got out just after 6 this morning, and it was quite nice. I was alone, so I had some tunes, and went farther than I've been going, and all that slow running has slowed me down a bit.  I went up Gay all the way to Glenn, and then back down College to the Art Museum and back.  All together, exactly 6 miles.

Balmy run to Toomer's

I decided I'm not going to run the Callaway Gardens Half Marathon, even though I think I could do back to back Halfs. Pride precedes a fall, so they say. I did have a big fat blister on my right foot, which I opted to reduce right away, rather than wait for it, which I what I learned in the Boy Scouts. Tonight it was balmy after a big rain, about 63 F, and I opted to run up to Toomer's and back. Felt good most of the time. The Map My Route app was being wonky, so I didn't use it tonight.

Night moves

No, I'm not suddenly down with Bob Seger. I just went on another nighttime run; a variation on the GWCToomer's route, tacking on enough to make it just over 6 miles. I turned on Samford and went up Armstrong, which I haven't done in a long while, and at the end I went around the block a bit to add the last 0.37. It's just warm enough out there, hopefully Fall will be upon us soon.

Back in Sweat Home Alabama

And I do mean sweat. It's been muggy and hot, though not as hot as a lot of other places in the southeast where it's been totally unbearable. I've been off partly because of sloth and fear of melting into a puddle of saline ooze, and partly because of work and no childcare and temporary single-parenting and baseball addiction.

However, tonight is the last night of summer vacation for my girls, and I felt I was overdue for a run, which I am now, so I doffed my shirt and hit the road after the last out of the Red Sox-Twins, which coupled with the Yankees loss means happy good news for me, though a late start for a long run.

I ran to Toomer's, which was pretty quiet this time of night on a Tuesday between semesters, so now I'm pretty well back on track for the time being, except I don't think I should do all of it in large chunks like that (large for me, 5+ miles).

Muggy but nicer

It's a bit overcast and it might rain shortly, which is good because we need rain. The temperature is down a bit, but the humidity is quite high. I got off to a good start and decided to go down to Toomer's Corner and back, the ol' 5.6 mile route. And it's our Wedding Anniversary, yay!

I hate to have to walk, but I guess not as much as I hate to hurt myself for foolish gains. Today I ran the GWCToomers route, backwards, and was experiencing some left knee pain as I came down the hill from the Art Museum. I walked the 0.1 mile to the stop sign and started up again, only to walk up from Town Creek to the next street (about 0.2 miles). The ending felt okay, but I'll have to see how it goes. I'm awfully close to my goal for the month, with about a week to spare, so I don't need to do anything stupid. It's only getting hotter though, and once my kids get out of school (tomorrow) I'll have to adjust my running schedule.

Back to Toomer's

Another nighttime jaunt. Finally made it back up to 5.6 miles, all the way up to Toomer's and back. Felt pretty good, most of the way. A little back tightness, a little calf tightness, but over all, it felt good. I'm glad to be halfway back to 10 miles. Hopefully this bodes well for the Tough Ten.

More days off. Feeling beat up

Another few days off. Sunday I went up to Lake Martin with the girls and some friends. It was fun, but in spite of frequent application of sunscreen, I got sunburned about the head and shoulders. Also got a cut on my foot, and a scrape on my knee. So I was feeling pretty beat up.
Today was the first day I really felt up to the challenge of physical activity. My foot felt better, and without my shirt, my skin felt all right as well. Another nighttime run, up to Toomer's and back. Instead of cutting in at Briarwood as I usually do, I ran down to Tanglewood and in to add a few feet.

Night time is the right time

First time out at night with the flashlight and no sunglasses. It was a bit muggy but nice out. I got a good pace going and kept it up. I was with the girls all day and stayed up to watch the Tim Wakefield and the Sox beat the Tribe, 3-2. Of course the top baseball story of the day was RHP Steve Strasburg, who lived up to the hype leading up to his first MLB start. 14 strikeouts!

I ran the GWCToomer's route, cutting over to Armstrong to add 0.2 miles. The new shoes are starting to feel good, and the night time does seem to be the right time, at least in the summer months.

P to Z and back to V

Same route as yesterday, only reversed at Gay/Woodfield, i.e. up Gay to Magnolia, and down College from Toomer's. A bit tougher today, even though I hit the uphills earlier on. Probably latent fatigue from yesterday. Feeling a little numb in my right arm and hand. Did I sleep on it funny? Perhaps.

Alpha Beta Parking Lot

What a difference it makes going out a little earlier. I left around 9, rather than close to noon. Maybe also a second consecutive day helped as well, in any event I felt a lot better out there today. Not quite as strong an urge to stop and walk, not feeling like death on two legs afterwards. Tired, but not wiped out. I was able to go further today as well, all the way up to Toomer's Corner, adding a mile to yesterday's route.
